SEOUL February 14 (Yonhap) -- “I hope you guys will look at me as the director Park Sung-kwang instead of a comedian Park Sung-kwang.”
South Korean Comedian Park Sung-kwang has kicked off his career as the director of commercial films. The upcoming movie “Woong Nam” depicts an old tail of twin bears becoming humans after eating garlic and mugwort for 100 days.
Park Sung-kwang who led the production of “Woong Nam” participated in the press conference held on February 13 at Yongsan, Seoul and addressed “I have worked with independent movies, however working on a feature film is definitely different,” adding “I have great respect on directors who have and are currently working on films.”
As for the reasons why Park Sung-kwang decided to work on “Woong Nam” as his first commercial film, director addressed “I wanted to do what I am good at.”
Continuing on director Park addressed “When I worked on the independent movie, I participated in deep and very grim movies, I guess I wanted to break free from the boundaries of comedian. One thing that came into my mind was, maybe I should do something that I am good at for commercial movies, and that is comedy, therefore I have decided to create a comedy movie. To me comedy could be the greatest enemy, however at the same time the greatest weapon I posses, therefore I feel a lot of pressure.”
Moreover, South Korean actor Park Sung-woong acted out both twin protagonist figures Woongnam and Woongbook throughout the movie. Woongnam is a former cop who participates in a joint investigation to catch the international crime organization, and Woongbook is the second inline of the international crime organization.
Director Park addressed “When I first met actor Park Sung-woong about 14 to 15 years ago, I addressed my will to become a film director and wanted to work on a production with him, hence my dreams have come true.” adding “Since I wrote the scenario thinking of actor Park Sung-woong, therefore no one would have done it better than him, moreover, I have titled the movie thinking of him as well.”
“When I heard the entire scenario of the movie was written for me to participate I could not say no,” adding “When I first received the scenario I was quite proud of Park Sung-kwang and how he has managed to come up with such scenario.” addressed actor Park Sung-woong throughout the press conference.
As for acting out two roles, Park Sung-woong addressed “Acting out two characters is not an easy task, since it’s a twin character, I have decided not to segregate two apart, instead I got into character thinking both of them are the same within the core.”
The movie “Woong Nam” will feature not only actor Park Sung-woong but also Lee Yi-kyung, Choi Min-soo, and more.
Actor Lee Yi-kyung will act out the character Mal-bong, which is Woongnam’s friend and a YouTuber, actress Yeom Hye-ran will act out Woongnam’s mother Jang Kyung-sook. Whereas actor Choi Min-soo will act out the leader of the international crime organization Lee Jung-sik and actress Baek Ji-hye will act out Woongnam and Mal-bong’s friend and police woman Na-ra.
“I consider Park Sung-kwang to be like my brother, therefore if there is something I can do or participate in his production I told him I was in,” adding “Director was the one who was struggling with pressure and stress the most throughout the production, which resulted in him balding and more.” addressed actor Lee Yi-kyung throughout the press conference showcasing his close relationship with the director Park Sung-kwang.
Continuing on actor Choi Min-soo addressed “When I received the casting call I was curious of the CEO of the production company. In the past there were movies directed by comedians however they all struggled through insufficient amount of fund, however a production company decided to go through with such touch choices, therefore I wanted to know who the CEO was and that is why I decided to take part in the production.”
Moreover, actor Choi Min-soo chuckled while stating “When I first saw Park Sung-kwang he looked as if he would not listen to anybody, however he seems very stiff at the moment, that is because he wants the movie to succeed. The ambition for success might have changed the way he look now.”
“The movie which originates from the old tail, is a fun entertaining movie for the audience to watch, therefore I hope everyone will have fun and enjoy the movie.” addressed actress Baek Ji-hye throughout the press conference of “Woong Nam.”
