SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- Song Seung-yeon, Kim Ji-woo, Park Hye-na, Solji, and Lee Arum-soul will be starring in the forthcoming South Korean production of the mega-hit original musical “Six the Musical,” which re-introduces the six wives of Henry VIII by taking turns singing and telling their stories.
Production company IM Culture unveiled the cast of the Korean production of “Six the Musical,” which will be held at Shinhan Card Artium in COEX, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Mar. 31.
Son Seung-yeon and Lee Arum-soul will play the role of Aragon, the first wife with whom Henry VIII was married the longest and also the character inspired by Beyonce and Shakira. Singer and musical actor Son, who showed off her outstanding singing skills in several musicals including “Bodyguard” and “Wicked,” and musical actor Lee, who just celebrated her 10th debut anniversary, will play the queen Aragon, who fearlessly confronts the king.
Kim Ji-woo and Bae Soo-jung will appear as Boleyn, the second wife with free and rebellious spirits. Park Hye-na and Park Ga-ram will tell the tales of the third wife Seymour with deep ballad songs inspired by singer Adele and others.
Meanwhile, Kim Ji-sun and Choi Hyun-sun will also be on stage as the fourth wife Cleves, followed by Kim Ryeo-won and Solji appearing as the fifth wife Howard. Solji, a member of the girl group EXID, will be performing in her first-ever musical.
Finally, Yoo Joo-hye and Hong Ji-hee will take the mic as the sixth and last queen Parr, who watches over the death of the king.
Based on the original British musical comedy with book, music, and lyrics by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, “Six the Musical” will be a modern retelling of the lives of the six Tudor queens who married Henry VIII more than 500 years ago. The pop concert was first presented at the Edinburgh Festival in 2017 and received the spotlight by winning Best Music and Best Musical Costume Design at the 75th Tony Awards held last June.
Prior to the Korean-language performance, which will be staged for the first time in Asia, the musical will be preceded by the foreign actors’ performance in English for three weeks from Mar. 10.
