'Chuncheon Mime Festival' officially resumes after three years

SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) -- Chuncheon Mime Festival, one of the representative festivals of Chuncheon, Gangwon province opened on the 22nd.

The Mime Festival, which has been performed separately for the past two years due to COVID-19, has been officially resumed with the festival being held for eight days from the 22nd for the first time in three years.

The Mime Festival which kicked off with stage performances around Myeongdong Street and Brown 5th Avenue, a parade of the performing arts troupe added to the festival's enthusiasm in line with the slogan "We will rock you."

At the opening ceremony, the Mayor of Chuncheon, Lee Jae-soo said, "I expect the energy to shake up Chuncheon for eight days."

The theme of the festival this year is "Ecstatic Hospitality."

The purpose behind this is to convey to the citizens that they have enough reasons to be welcomed as they have recovered their daily lives after struggling due to COVID-19.

The festival will continue until the 29th with theater performances and street performances at Myeong-dong, Gongjicheon Uiam Park, Nami Island, Festival Theater Mojimji, and Samaksan Lake Cable Car Parking Lot.

In particular, Dokkebi Nanjang, the highlight of the festival, will be prepared ahead of the closing.

Performances by Korea's representative fire artist team's traditional fireworks, and performances of various genres will be held until late at night.

Additionally, collaborations and exhibitions of various genres will be displayed by the trail and the Gongjicheon Stream along with the Ohmaju program.

Director Kang Young-gyu said, "We prepared this festival for the people to unleash the freedom, passion, and joy that we could not enjoy due to COVID-19."
