SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- The government will establish and implement a basic plan for cosmetics safety management, regulatory support and international cooperation, the food and drug safety ministry said Friday.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said an amendment to the Cosmetics Act containing the measures passed the National Assembly's plenary session Thursday.

Under the revised law, the ministry will establish and implement a basic cosmetics management plan and set up a cosmetics management council to discuss related policies.

"We expect to further enhance the competitiveness of K-beauty in the global market through systematic policy development and support for the industry," a ministry official said.

Amendments to the Medical Devices Act, the Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management and the Narcotics Control Act were also approved during Thursday's plenary session.

Under the revised Medical Devices Act, the ministry will monitor the labeling and advertising of medical devices sold online. If violations are found, it can order information and communications service providers operating the sales websites to submit relevant materials and take other necessary measures.

Under the revised Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management, the registration of an overseas manufacturing facility can be revoked if it fraudulently or improperly extends the expiration date of its products.

The amendment to the Narcotics Control Act was made in connection with the revision of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. If the health minister requests integrated narcotics-related information for follow-up management, the food and drug safety minister may provide the information.
