SEOUL, Mar. 16 (Yonhap) -- "Soulmate" starring Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee and DC hero film "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" (Shazam! 2) have started side by side as the second and third place in the Korea box office on the first day of its release.
According to the Korean Film Council's Box-office Information System on Thursday, "Soulmate" and "Shazam! 2" have been ranked second and third, mobilizing 20,000 audiences (11.0% of sales share) and 13,000 (8.2%), respectively, the day of its release.
The first place was Makoto Shinkai's new film, "Suzume," which attracted 82,000 (50.6%) audiences the previous day and maintained the top of the box office for eight consecutive days.
"Soulmate" is a work that depicts the life and friendship of best friends Miso (Kim Da-mi) and Ha-eun (Jeon So-nee) who met as children. It was directed by Min Yong-geun of the movie "Re-encounter" (2010).
"Shazam! 2" tells the story of the superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) and the gods who visited the human world to regain their lost power.
"Plane," an aviation action thriller starring Gerard Butler, which was released on the same day as the two films, attracted more than 5,000 (3.1%) and ranked sixth.
