SEOUL, September 23 (Yonhap) -- The National Dance Company of Korea's famous work "VORTEX" drew a standing ovation from the audience in Finland, the home of the choreographer.
The National Dance Company of Korea announced on Friday that the "VORTEX" performance, which was held on September 22, got a lot of applause from the local audience.
The tickets for the three concert dates held in Dance House Helsinki, Erkko Hall (700 capacity) were all sold out.
Dance House Helsinki, Finland's first dance concert hall, was opened in February and invited "VORTEX" as the first international invited performance.
"VORTEX" was choreographed by the internationally famous choreographer Tero Saarinen, and it premiered in 2014. It is a steady seller, with performances continuously held in France, Japan, and Korea. "VORTEX" was also performed at the National Theater of Korea, Haeoreum Grand Theater, in June.
"VORTEX" was the first project of the National Dance Company of Korea which was done in collaboration with an international choreographer in order to expand to the international market of Korean dance. It was acclaimed for its exotic yet profound movements, derived from the prototype of Korean traditional dance.
The performance continues for 80 minutes non-stop with 21 dancers, including the male character "Black" and female character "White," the intermediary role of the couple, showing intense performance with primitive energy.
"It was difficult to get tickets as the tickets sold out early. I think more people in Finland should watch this concert." said Peka Fustinen, an audience who likes dance performances and visits the theater often.
After the performance on Friday, the dancers will take some time to communicate with the audience.
