'Hope' to open Hong Kong Summer International Film Festival

SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- Director Na Hong-jin's film "Hope" will open the Hong Kong Summer International Film Festival.

 

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong said Monday that "Hope" has been selected as the opening film of the 2026 Hong Kong Summer International Film Festival, which will run from Aug. 19-31.

 

The Korean Cultural Center is participating as a partner of the festival and will cooperate on the screening of "Hope" and the master class with Na.

"Hope" will be screened twice on Aug. 19 at Elements Cinema in Hong Kong. Na will attend the screenings and meet with audiences.

 

On Aug. 20, Na will also attend a screening of his earlier film "The Wailing" at Elements Cinema before holding a master class for local audiences. He will discuss his major works and his approach to filmmaking.

 

The festival will also feature a special program titled "Zoom In Zoom Out Hong Sang-soo," showcasing the early works of director Hong Sang-soo.

 

The program will screen 10 films, including Hong's debut "The Day a Pig Fell into the Well," as well as "The Power of Kangwon Province," "Tale of Cinema," "Oki's Movie" and "Our Sunhi."
