SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- More than 1.7 million viewers worldwide gathered around for K-pop girl group BLACKPINK's fifth debut anniversary live broadcast.
BLACKPINK's one-hour broadcast held on Aug. 8 at Naver Vlive recorded 1.76 million concurrent users, according to the act's agency YG Entertainment on Tuesday.
In the broadcast, the four members of BLACKPINK expressed their feelings about the group's fifth anniversary and thanked their fans.
"I've grown up with my members and I've gotten older," Lisa said. "It's already been five years but I still feel like a rookie. I'm starting to wrap my mind around the fact after realizing that today is our actual fifth anniversary."
Jisoo added, "It has been about 10 years since our members first met each other. If things get better, I hope to make more memories with our fans and talk to them in person on BLACKPINK's 6th anniversary."
"I just wanted to tell everyone to think about our future rather than being sad or emotional about the situation we're stuck in," Jennie added.
"We couldn't be happier after all the times we spent together. I'm so lucky we could share our journey with our fans."
"I've made a lot of good memories for five years and I don't think I'll ever forget them," Rose said. "I'm happy to have experienced a lot of things together and thank you for always being there and supporting me by my side."
Recently, BLACKPINK has released a variety of contents to mark its fifth debut anniversary.
The four-piece-act provided photo books, exhibitions, and even opened up its own island called "InYourArea" on the popular virtual reality game, 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons.'
"BLACKPINK the Movie" also hit theaters on Aug. 4 in around 100 countries, including CGV cinema chains nationwide. On the first day of its release, the movie attracted 160,000 viewers and proved the power of BLACKPINK.
Debuting in 2016, with the single "Square One," BLACKPINK has grown into a popular K-pop girl group with a global fan base.
Since their debut, the quartet has made numerous hits and in 2018, BLACKPINK's title track "DDU-DU DDU-DU" for its album "Square Up", entered the Billboard main singles and album chart respectively, drawing attention from fans worldwide.
The K-pop queens have then steadily updated its ranking on the chart and landed at No.2 with its first full-length album "The Album" on Billboard 200 last year, the first and highest record achieved by a K-pop girl group in 12 years.
BLACKPINK has also collaborated with top pop stars such as Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Cardi B.
As members Jennie and Rose have all succeeded in creating hit solo songs, Lisa is also preparing to release a solo album soon.
"SOLO," released by Jennie in 2018, surpassed 700 million YouTube views on Monday, breaking the highest number of views for a K-pop female solo artist's music video.
