SEOUL April 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korean K-pop artist Ryu Su-jeong of Lovelyz has showcased her first solo album “Archive of Emotions” on April 20, which incorporates unique and never seen side of the artist throughout 9 years as a member of Lovelyz.
Throughout the album, artist managed to showcase different sides to her happily portrayed life as a member of K-pop girl group where majority of the idols solely focus on showcasing positive sides to the profession. Artist Ryu Su-jeong successfully showcased emotions such as sadness, depression, and ambition which she has stacked up throughout her years as an idol throughout the album.
Ryu Su-jeong who managed to not only write lyrics to all 11 of her tracks without getting help from others, and out of those 11 various tracks 8 of the tracks were also partially produced by the artist.
Artist Ryu Su-jeong who participated in an interview at a small café in Gangnam Seoul addressed “I wanted to showcase the truthful side of myself to my fans, those moments where I suffered, and deeply thought to myself.”
“Throughout the album, I included my latest tracks to make sure I could incorporate various feelings I have recently experienced within the album.” adding “As I become older, I learned to see things from various angles. I felt sad, depressed, hopeful I was overwhelmed with various emotions I have never felt before.” addressed Ryu Su-jeong throughout her interview.
Ryu Su-jeong who debuted as a lead vocalist of K-pop girl group Lovelyz received a lot of love by various fans due to her lovely characteristics. However artist addressed that as she got older she started to see the walls closing in. Artist’s first track “Non Fantasy” within her solo album fully successfully portrays various feeling she felt.
“When I was young, I thought all my dreams would come true, however I was quick to realize the truth that, all of the dreams cannot be reached.” adding “Those within the age demographic of mid twenties will be able to relate to the concerns we have as we face the reality. I hope my tracks will heal those who are in need. It doesn’t necessarily mean that I have given up on my dreams, as I grow older I learned to dream within the boundary of reality.” artist addressed throughout her interview.
Title track of Ryu Su-jeong’s solo album “Grabby Girl” depicts a story of her ambition as she suffered through her own sadness. Often times the idol members who transition from group activities to solo, tend to depict their emotional change and intention of let go of the golden era. However Ryu Su-jeong includes her ambition to take a step further with her ambition, which makes her album more unique and shine amongst the others.
“Before I got to work on my album, I had the prejudice mindset of ‘Idol members need to be bright and cheerful,’ however as I started writing these tracks I naturally let go of everything,” adding “Life is simple and we all go through these changes, therefore I thought of releasing the album with most natural stance.” addressed Ryu Su-jeong.
Moreover, artist stated “As an artist I have the ambition to participate in various productions and want to release various works,” adding “As a human I wanted to relax a bit while putting all I have into the work I do.”
Pre-released track “Love or Hate” depicts the story of hatred and love. Artist addressed that she wanted to address her thoughts regarding such relationship through music since she has hard time speaking about such subject with other people.
“I had hard time back in the days because I kept my feelings to myself,” adding “However, I have learned to love such aspect of myself.” stated the artist throughout her interview.
Due to various news regarding the return of well loved K-pop girl groups, a lot of fans are wondering what will happen with the group Lovelyz, however artist carefully addressed “Since we have decided to focus on things individual members always dreamed of doing, I think we would like to focus on our individual works at the moment and see how it goes in the future.”
Moreover artist added “I have learned how to become strong throughout my time as a member of Lovelyz, interestingly my nickname during the elementary years was princess of tears.” adding “I personally feel like it has only been 3 years since we debuted, however the time has gone by so fast. And the time I spent as Lovelyz have set me to become more positive therefore it definitely benefited me in many ways.”
Also the artist addressed “Although my latest album includes various emotions which might look depressing, however to the public I wish it will come across as a comfort and to heal my loving fans.”
