◇ 'Squid Game' wins four prizes at creative arts Emmys
The global sensation "Squid Game" has won four prizes at this year's Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, becoming the first Korean-made TV show to grab a trophy at the most prestigious TV event in the United States.
the Korean-language Netflix original series was awarded outstanding guest actress in a drama series, best production design, best stunt and best special visual effects.
It is the first time ever that a Korean TV program has been nominated and awarded at the Emmys.
In the category for the best guest actress in a drama series, Lee You-mi was named the winner over Marcia Gay Harden from "The Morning Show," Martha Kelly from "Euphoria," and Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan and Harriet Walter from "Succession."
She became the first Korean actor to win an Emmy.
“Outstanding Guest Actress” award Lee Yoo-mi received drew a lot of attention because it was one the first award to be announced out of all the “Squid Game” related nomination.
Than main cast members of "Squid Game" will individually depart for the United States this week to attend this year's Emmy Awards, their star agencies said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, American Korean congressman of Los Angeles John Lee announced on September 7 (US time) that the city council of Los Angeles passed the resolution appointing September 17 as "Squid Game Day."
◇ BLACKPINK' 'Pink Venom' stays on Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks
Pre-released song "Pink Venom" from girl group BLACKPINK's second full album stayed on Billboard main single Hot 100 chart for two consecutive weeks.
According to the latest chart on Thursday, this song ranked No.53, 31 places lower than last week, on Hot 100.
Billboard said Wednesday on social media that the band secured its second consecutive No. 1 on the two global charts for this week to become the first female K-pop act to do so.
The single surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming service, only 17 days after it was out. This is the fastest record for any female K-pop group, according to YG.
Meanwhile, the lead single of BLACKPINK's upcoming full-length album is titled "Shut Down," the band's agency said Wednesday.
◇ 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' tops Netflix chart for 6th straight week
The South Korean legal drama "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" has retained the top position on Netflix's latest weekly viewership chart of non-English TV shows for the sixth consecutive week even though it finished airing in the country, the global video streaming service said Wednesday.
The TV sensation, which aired every Wednesday and Thursday on local cable channel ENA from June 29 to Aug. 18, marked 48.82 million hours of viewing for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4 to lead Netflix's official top 10 list for non-English TV programs available on the service, according to the company.
It is the 16-part series' eighth No. 1 finish since the drama rose to the top in the second week of its release. It has since stayed atop the list except for its fourth week (July 18-24), when it placed second after the Spanish show "Alba."
