South Korean actor Han suk-kyu returns with series 'Recipe for Farewell'

SEOUL November 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Han Suk-kyu will be bringing the heartwarming stories through upcoming series provided by the South Korean over the top media provider Watcha, “Recipe For Farewell” by cooking food.

Actor Han Suk-kyu known for his roles in both of the series “Dr. Romantic” has returned with a new series “Recipe For Farewell” in over two years where Han Suk-kyu will act out the husband figure Chang-wook who learns how to cook for his ill wife.

Throughout the online press conference held for “Recipe For Farewell” on November 29, actor Han Suk-kyu addressed the upcoming series as “Upcoming series is a warm drama in comparison to temperature.”

“Recipe for Farewell” which is based on the essay of the writer Kim Chang-rae depicts husband Chang-wook who learns how to cook in order to provide his wife who is ill and every meal of the day counts.

Protagonist Chang-wook acted by Han Suk-kyu is a translator and a professor who used to puts his line of work in front of his family however, after finding out about his wife’s condition he starts to cook for his wife and through the process he learns the importance of the family.

Throughout the press conference, Han Suk-kyu addressed that he participated in the production because he was attracted by the fact that the series includes, family aspect, food and more of the things he wanted to try out for.

Actor addressed that “I am not sure exactly when but nowadays the love stories are portrayed negatively, however the series I worked on is about a love story of both husband and wife,” adding “I also wanted to do something with the relationship of son and father, and this incorporates all three of the aspects.”

According to the actor Han Suk-kyu, cooking action was not as hard since he used to cook simple and quick dishes himself.

“Throughout the series, there is a Chinese dish I cook, wok is a culinary object I have never used before, therefore it was interesting to use such object,” adding “The character I played throughout the series is bad at cooking Chinese therefore I was just fine.” actor chuckled while locking back at the production days of the series.

Moreover, actor addressed that “Director gave me a chance to pick the final food, therefore I suggested Kimchi Rice” adding “I was not only very personal food but also had a lot of meaning to it therefore I think it was a good choice in food.”

Female protagonist and the wife of Chang-wook, Da-jeong, is acted by actress Kim Seo-hyung and the son figure is acted by actor Jin Ho-eun. Although a son does not exist within the original essay, he was later on added in order to put emphasis on the family.

Director Lee Ho-jae known for his movie “Sori: Voice from the heart” in 2016 addressed “Throughout the essay I have seen a chapter of the cook’s life,” adding “I tried my best to follow along the lines of the original essay throughout the production.”
