SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- CJ Olive Young said Thursday that "survival beauty" products designed to help consumers cope with unusually early summer heat have emerged as a leading trend during its June Olive Young Sale.
According to an analysis of purchase data collected during the first four days of the sale, which began May 31, consumers showed heightened interest in products aimed at protecting against heat, humidity and strong ultraviolet rays.
Suncare products drew the strongest attention. During the May 31-June 3 period, "sunscreen" ranked second among the most searched keywords on Olive Young's online store.
The company said the trend of "sun layering" is also gaining popularity, with consumers applying sunscreen before going outdoors and reapplying portable suncare products throughout the day.
As a result, suncare products are becoming increasingly diversified. Consumers are selecting and combining different formulations depending on their needs, including lightweight sun serums with enhanced moisturizing effects, portable sun sticks and sprays, and sun powders that help maintain a matte makeup finish.
Searches for "sun powder" on Olive Young's online platform rose 284 percent from a year earlier during the sale period.
The scope of UV protection is also expanding beyond facial care to include products such as UV-protective hand creams and hair mists.
Demand for products that help manage perspiration and body odor has also increased.
During the first four days of the sale, searches for the keyword "body odor" jumped 98 percent from the same period last year, while searches for "scalp odor" rose more than 80 percent.
Reflecting this trend, Olive Young has expanded its deodorant offerings beyond traditional stick products to include roll-ons, sprays and wipes.
Since April, Olive Young has been promoting its "survival beauty" campaign, curating beauty and wellness products under four themes: UV care, blemish care, oil and sweat control, and cooling care.
Among the best-selling products during the sale were Goodal's Heartleaf Calming Moisture Sunscreen, Biore UV Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Mist and So Natural All Day Tight Makeup Setting Fixer.
The June Olive Young Sale, which runs through June 6, offers approximately 32,000 products at discounted prices or as special promotional packages.
Featured seasonal products include Rael Airy Cool Cotton Cover sanitary pads, Labo-H UV Protector 365 Roll-On Sun Serum, Rejuran Innerdot DNA Glow Jelly, Bring Green Aloe 97% Soothing Gel, Snuggle Fabric Deodorizer, Shingmulnara Lightweight Moisture Sun Gel, Anua Heartleaf 77 B3 Zinc Trouble Serum, Cell Fusion C Post Alpha First Cooling Mask and Flymill Protein Shake.
During the promotion period, Olive Young is distributing discount coupons three times daily at midnight, noon and 6 p.m. Coupons can be used both online and offline, offering discounts of up to 10,000 won on purchases of 40,000 won or more, as well as Olive Better coupons providing an additional 10 percent discount of up to 4,000 won.
An Olive Young official said the sale highlighted the growing popularity of "survival beauty" as a new summer beauty trend that helps consumers proactively respond to extreme heat and changing climate conditions.
"We will continue to lead trends through curated product selections that anticipate consumer needs and introduce appealing new products," the official said.
The Olive Young Sale is the company's quarterly promotional event held in March, June, September and December, offering trendy beauty and wellness products at discounted prices and with various customer benefits.
