SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- The "2022 Boryeong Sea Mud Exhibition " the first international maritime event in the west coast region of South Korea, is opening on July 16. 
 

According to the Expo Organizing Committee on Friday, this event co-hosted by South Chungcheong province and Boryeong city while being sponsored by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will be held till August 15 under the theme of "rediscovery of the ocean, the future value of mud!"

Built on a site of 73,430 m2 near Daecheon Beach, the exhibition has three themes with topic, industry, and experience. There will be 7 exhibition halls, including Sea Mud Theme Pavilion, Sea Mud Wellness Pavilion, Sea Mud & New Industry Pavilion, Marine Mud Experience Center, Marine Leisure & Tourism Pavilion, Marine Mud Video Hall, and Specialty Products Promotion Hall.

The organizing committee explained that the story of mankind and life in the ocean along with mud and related industries will be vividly captured in the exhibition hall.

In the Sea Mud Theme Pavilion, one will be able to see the birth of tidal flats, the West Sea, 562 species of creatures living in the UNESCO-listed tidal flats in South Chungcheong province, the ecological environment and restoration examples of mud destroyed by pollution and development, blue carbon which is a source of marine carbon dioxide, along with future use of mud.

Various mud healing programs will be operated at the Sea Mud Wellness Hall, which consists of four halls, including Mud Hydro Therapy Center, Atopic Center, and Spa Fit & Foot Spa.

Sea Mud & New Industry Pavilion is a publicity/business space where one will be able to see products such as mud sofas, mud beds, and mud cosmetics produced by mud industry companies.

At the Sea Mud Experience Center, one will be able to experience underwater robot driving skills, industrial diving, mud pack testing, sand art, mud birthstone bracelets, mud cups, ceramics, soap making and many more.

In the Sea Leisure & Tourism Hall, boats, yachts, campers, camping supplies, lifesaving supplies produced by marine leisure mobility companies will be displayed, allowing one to see the current state of the marine leisure industry.

At the Sea Mud Video Hall, one can also meet the stories of Boryeong mud and the infinite value of the sea. There will be 34 exhibition booths in the Special Products Promotion Hall, and one will be able to purchase excellent agricultural specialties produced in 15 cities and counties in the province.

68 convenience facilities including a meeting plaza and a food court for visitors will be operated.

This exhibition is expected to serve as a place to assess the future development and success potential of Korea's new marine industry by demonstrating the value of marine mud and various technologies related to it.

In particular, the 25th Boryeong Mud Festival will be held together during the exhibition, allowing one to enjoy summer vacation, fun, and viewing at the same time.

"This exhibition will present a vision of a new marine and mud industry by using the ocean and mud as its materials while allowing the visitors to see, feel and experience with the contents, making sure that they have an unforgettable experience."

The opening ceremony will be held on July 16 at 6:30 p.m. on a special stage in Mud Square.
