SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) – The ASEAN Film Festival is to be held to wish the host of 2030 Busan World Expo.
The ASEAN Cultural Center of the Korea Foundation (KF) and the Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan, have announced on Tuesday that they will co-host the “3rd ASEAN Film Week” from March 23 to April 8.
This is the third event to be held thanks to the audience’s response and interest in the “2019 ASEAN Film Week,” which was held as a side event of the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit in Busan in 2019.
"Miracle in Cell No.7,” which ranked fifth in all-time box office success in Indonesia, has been selected as opening film to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Indonesia this year. The film is a remake of the 2013 hit Korean film “Miracle in cell No. 7.”
A total of 11 ASEAN nine-nation films are to be screened, including Korea-Singapore joint film "AJOOMMA," Vietnam's "Maika: The Girl from Another Galaxy," Philippine Brillante Mendoza's "Gensan Punch," and Laos' female film director Mattie Do's “Chanthaly.”
In addition, Thailand's famous Netflix drama series "Girl From Nowhere" will also be presented at the movie theater.
All films are free to watch. The tour period is March 23-26 at Cinecube Gwanghwamun in Seoul, March 30-April 2 at the Busan Cinema Center, and April 7-8 at Megabox Jeonju.
You can also watch various video contents such as director greetings and conversations with the audience on YouTube and Naver TV's 3rd ASEAN Film Week channel.
Detailed information about screening information, screening schedules, and reservation can be found on the 3rd ASEAN Film Week website (www.aseancw.or.kr).
Kang Hyung-seok, who starred with Singaporean national actor Hong Hwi-fang in "AJOOMMA," will serve as a public relations ambassador.
It is expected that it will serve as an opportunity for audiences to get closer to ASEAN through various ASEAN films with a history of winning awards at leading overseas film festivals, workmanship and box office power.
