SEOUL, Apr. 8 (Yonhap) -- "I think I learned love through dramas because there's romance in every work I’ve done. I admit that it's a field that I'm good at. (laughs),” said Actress Park Min-young.
Park, from JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama “Forecasting Love and Weather,” which recently ended, said that it was “too much” to be called a ‘Romance Queen.”
“(Jin Ha-kyung) She was a character I’ve never done before. She was so different from me that I became lonely on purpose and fought with myself to resemble her,” said Park in a virtual interview on Friday.
Park, who plays Jin Ha-kyung, the youngest manager of the Korea Meteorological Administration, taking an elite course, showed her charm as a career woman who is older than her lover, which is quite different from the loveliness shown in "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" and "Her Private Life."
Park explained, "In order to portray the image of a person who is overwhelmed with work, I pushed myself to make a dry tone by removing the laughter as much as possible. I acted in a way that was full of aegyo (behaving cutely) to show the perfect Ha-kyung relax outside work."
"Some people say Park Min-young's romantic comedy is the same, but I made constant efforts," she said. "I want to continue to show how I'm developing in detail within this framework."
“Forecasting Love and Weather” is set in the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA), which has never been portrayed in Korean dramas before. The series reveals the hardships of employees who are sensitive to weather changes.
Park mentioned, “I needed quite some time to adapt to the KMA employess’ way of talking,” adding, “At first, it all sounded like gibberish but if I didn't understand difficult words, I stuttered, so as I studied, I understood (the term)."
The actress also said, "When I watched the KMA employees closely, they constantly looked at the screen and observed it," adding, "After knowing their hard work, the perception of the KMA changed from 'Why can't you guess the weather' to 'Oh, Korea is a difficult terrain to observe.'”
Regarding the romance between actor Song Kang, “Song is a pure person with his own solid world, so I thought his innocence would be a great weapon,” adding, “So I thought Song as the character Si-woo because those two matched in those terms.”
Thanks to their deep chemistry, “Forecasting Love and Weather” gained popularity in various parts of Asia, including Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, and became one of the world's top 10 Netflix TV programs according to FlixPatrol.
Park said, "I felt that the status of the Korean Wave has changed after seeing international fans support me. I think I'm lucky to be an actor in this era."
As for whether there is a desire for other genres other than romance, Park replied, “I do have a big desire, but I also respect the opinions of fans who love me in my romance works.”
“In the past, I dreamed of an acting transformation thinking, 'Why do I keep getting these roles?' Now, I think it's not bad if I can develop enough here, and perform deeper in detail. However, I want to try action someday, and also challenge myself as a villain."
