SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Yonhap) -- Two popular K-pop boy groups, Astro and Golden Child, both made a comeback on the evening of Aug. 2 with cool music to beat the summer heat.
Astro, has returned in four months with its full six-member lineup too release its eighth mini-album "SWITCH ON."
The boy band have already made remarkable achievements, as they sold 280,000 copies of their second full-length album "All Yours," released in April, during the first week of sales.
"We received a lot of attention and love with 'All Yours,' so to return the love we made a super quick comeback," Astro's leader JinJin said during the group's showcase. "As the members participated in writing and composing the songs, Astro's unique color became more visible and the quality of the album seemed to have improved."
Astro explained that "SWITCH ON" contained the group's past, present, and future based on six years of working together since their debut.
Over the years, members MJ, JinJin, and Rocky have mainly participated in writing and composing the songs, however this time, all members have been listed as the lyricists and composers to show their musical growth.
JinJin didn't forget to compliment his members' musical development, saying, "For three years now, I have been talking about wanting to make an album where all of the members participate in the production process. I was finally able to make my wish come true."
The title of the album, "Switch On," contains the message of Astro's "ambition to change the world with music."
If Astro's title track "One" from its previous album showcased the group's refreshing yet powerful image, "After Midnight," the latest title track, is a disco-based joyful song.
Cha Eun-woo, who participated in writing the lyrics, said, "I hope this song is played in cafes, restaurants, and swimming pools in the summer," adding, "Within K-pop there always seems to be a representative 'summer queen' girl group but not a 'summer king.' I hope Astro will become the new 'summer king' boy group."
On the same day, boy band Golden Child released its second full-length album "GAME CHANGER."
Leader Lee Dae-yeol introduced at the showcase, "Our album literally contains Golden Child's aspirations to turn the tables around in the K-pop world," while Lee Jang-joon added, "We came back with our second full album in six months, and as much as we missed performing onstage, we will start to relieve our stress here today."
The title song "Ra Pam Pam" is an onomatopoeia expressing heartbeats in order to express the overwhelming energy. In the music video, the members appear as boys who have survived the devastated earth and put on a large scale performance.
"Ra Pam Pam" is a Moombahton genre song and the use of brass instruments, flute, and percussion sounds give off Latin America's musical colors. Members Lee Jang-jun and TAG participated in the rap making.
"I challenged myself to Moombahton and reggae for the first time in order to complete 'Game Changer," TAG said. "Since this is our regular album, it also includes our members' solo and unit songs."
