SEOUL, Apr. 26 (Yonhap) -- Two short films produced by budding Korean filmmakers have been invited to the Cannes International Film Festival.
"THE LEE FAMILIES" and "HOLE" have been included in the 76th Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation selection, according to the executive committee of the fest on Tuesday (local time).
In support of promising young filmmakers in different areas of creation, the fest selects film projects each year from film schools all over the world and invites their directors. For this year’s fest, more than 2,000 films have been submitted, of which only sixteen were selected and received invitations.
“THE LEE FAMILIES” is a 25-minute-long film directed by Seo Jung-mi of the Korea National University of Arts. Meanwhile, “HOLE” is a 24-minute-long film directed by Hwang Hye-in of the Korea Academy of Film Arts (KAFA).
By far, a total of seven Korean films have been invited to Cannes, which is scheduled to hold its 76th edition on May 16.
Alongside the young filmmakers’ two works, Director Kim Ji-woon's new feature film "Cobweb" (Out-of-Competition category), director Kim Chang-hoon's debut feature film "Hopeless" (Un Certain Regard), director Hong Sang-soo's 30th feature film "In Our Day" (Directors’ Fortnight), director Jason Yu's horror film "Sleep" (Critics’ Week), and director Kim Tae-gon's fantasy flick "Project Silence" (Midnight Screening) have been invited to Cannes.
