SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- Director Jung Ju-ri’s feature film "Dora" has been invited to the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where it will make its premiere.

The Directors’ Fortnight selection committee announced the invitation on Tuesday, local time.

Julien Rejl, artistic director of the section, described the film as a free and original work inspired by Sigmund Freud’s early 20th-century case study "Dora," exploring the desires, passion and emotional turmoil of a young woman through a bold and distinctive approach within the context of Korean cinema.

He added that he was delighted to present Jung’s third feature, praising its high level of completion.

Jung has maintained a close relationship with Cannes, with all three of her feature films invited to the festival. Her debut "A Girl at My Door" was screened in the Un Certain Regard section in 2014, while "Next Sohee" was invited as the closing film of Critics’ Week in 2022.

"Dora" follows two individuals bearing emotional and physical wounds as they become entangled in a whirlwind of complex feelings.

The film has drawn attention for its casting of singer-actress Kim Do-yeon alongside Sakura Ando, a three-time winner of the Japan Academy Prize for best actress.

It is also an international co-production supported by France, Luxembourg and Japan.

The Directors’ Fortnight, a noncompetitive section established in 1969 by the French Directors’ Guild, has previously invited works by prominent Korean filmmakers such as Lee Chang-dong, Bong Joon-ho and Yeon Sang-ho.
