SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) -- Agoda said Wednesday that travel demand for concert destinations, including Goyang and Busan, has surged following the announcement of K-pop supergroup BTS’ world tour schedule.
According to Agoda’s data analysis based on Jan. 14, the day the tour schedule was announced, accommodation searches for Goyang — where concerts are set to take place next month — increased eightfold from the previous week.
Searches for accommodations in Busan, which will host concerts in June, rose 47 percent.
“Following the announcement of BTS’ world tour schedule, interest in attending their performances in South Korea has grown among fans across Asia,” the company said.
In the Philippines, accommodation searches for Goyang and Busan rose more than sevenfold, while searches from Hong Kong jumped 145 percent.
Demand also spiked around the actual concert dates. During the Goyang concert period, accommodation searches by inbound travelers increased about 185 times. By country, demand was highest from Japan, followed by the Philippines, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.
During the same period, accommodation searches by domestic travelers rose about 44 times.
“Following the announcement of BTS’ world tour, demand for both inbound and outbound travel has surged explosively, like ‘Dynamite,’ as fans around the world are willing to travel long distances to see the group perform together again after about four years,” an Agoda official said.
