SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean star trot singer Song Dae-kwan, best known for his hit song "Hae Tteul Nal" (The Day the Sun Rises), passed away on Friday morning at the age of 79.

According to his family, Song had complained of feeling unwell the previous day and visited the emergency room at Seoul National University Hospital. Despite receiving treatment, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away.

Song debuted in 1967 with "Injeong Maneun Ajeossi" (A Kind-hearted Gentleman) and rose to stardom in 1975 with the massive hit "Hae Tteul Nal." He went on to release numerous hits, including "Nebakja" (Four Beats), "Yuhaengga" (Popular Song), and "Chapyohan Jang" (A Ticket)." Alongside Tae Jin-ah, Hyun Chul, and Seol Woon-do, he was regarded as one of the "Four Kings of Trot."

Choi Heon, a writer for KBS’s "Gayo Stage," expressed his sorrow in an interview with Yonhap News, stating, "Song was originally scheduled to appear on next week's show, but he called a few days ago to say he wasn’t feeling well and needed to postpone. We had a conversation then, but now he is suddenly gone. It’s heartbreaking."
