SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- Apple TV+, the streaming service of tech giant Apple Inc., has officially launched in South Korea on Thursday.
The most eye-catching work Apple has unveiled is its first Korean-language original series "Dr. Brain." Starring actor Lee Sun-kyun of "Parasite" (2019), "Dr. Brain" is a sci-fi thriller based on a popular Korean webtoon with the same title. The six-episode show follows a cold-hearted cerebral scientist who tries to figure out ways to access the brains of people to uncover the truth about a mysterious event.
While the exact release date has not been announced yet, the upcoming TV series "Pachinko," starring top Korean actors like Youn Yuh-jung and Lee Min-ho, is expected to be released on Apple TV+ soon.
"Pachinko," which is presumed to be the next work for Oscar-winning actress Youn Yuh-jung, is a TV adaptation based on the critically acclaimed novel of the same title by Korean American author Lee Min-jin. The historical fiction show tells the story of a four-generation Korean family who immigrate to Japan and encounters racism, stereotyping, and other experiences during the Japanese occupation of Korea period.
Within the lineup released on Oct. 25, Apple is set to release the Emmy-winning football comedy series "Ted Lasso."
The sports comedy-drama series follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach, who is unexpectedly hired to coach an English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, despite not having any experience of coaching.
Ted Lasso is played by Jason Sudeikis, a popular comedy actor who has also worked as a writer for SNL (Saturday Night Live) since 2003, who is said to have drawn out warm humanism through sports.
"The Morning Show," which stars and is produced by actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, is also one of the many anticipated works on Apple TV+. .
When popular anchor Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) of The Morning Show finds out her fellow on-air partner is fired due to a sexual misconduct scandal, Alex tries to maintain her position as the top news anchor. The series includes the Me Too movement, which has become an important subject around the world, and allows the viewers to think more in depth about gender issues.
In addition, "Killers of the Flower Moon," directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, "Foundation," a TV series based on sci-fi stories by Issac Asimov, and "Finch," starring Tom Hanks, are all works waiting for viewers to watch on Apple TV+.
