SEOUL, April. 28 (Yonhap) -- Gyeongbokgung Palace, Korea's leading historical and cultural heritage, is to be transformed into a fashion show runway stage.
Italian luxury brand Gucci has announced on Friday that it will hold the "2024 Cruise Fashion Show" in front of Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace on May 16.
The event was originally scheduled to be held on November 1 last year, but it was postponed due to the Itaewon disaster on October 29, three days before the show, and was re-promoted this time.
Geunjeongjeon Hall, the central building of Gyeongbokgung Palace, is a place where national ceremonies were held during the Joseon Dynasty and foreign envoys were welcomed. It is designated as National Treasure No. 223 as one of the largest existing wooden buildings in Korea.
It is reported that this is the first time that a fashion show is being held near Geunjeongjeon Hall.
The fashion show will be set in the front yard of Geunjeongjeon Hall, but will use Haenggak (a line run away built in front of or on the left and right sides of a palace) as a runway for models to walk.
"Through Gyeongbokgung Palace, a world-class building, we can have an amazing experience connecting with Korean culture and the Koreans who have created it," said Marco Bizzarri, global chairman and CEO of Gucci. "It is an honor to showcase the 2024 Cruise Collection in a place where you can commemorate the past and get inspiration in the future."
In the past, Gucci has held fashion shows at landmark buildings around the world, including the Westminster Abbey in London, the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy, and the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
