SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Yonhap) -- Gyeongju National Museum announced on Tuesday that the number of visitors surpassed 1 million this year.

According to the museum, the number of spectators recorded 1,010,394 since the first day of this year to last Monday.

This is first time in three years since annual visitors exceeded 1 million before the COVID-19 in 2019. This year's number is about 94% of visitors in 219 in the same period.

More than 100,000 people visited the museum every month from May to October this year, and the number of spectators reached 160,000 last Oct.

The Museum will open a special exhibition "Gold Bells, A Young Song's Companion," which introduces Geumnyeongchong, where earthenware were found from an investigation in 1924, on Nov. 22.

The Museum is opening a "Forum for Children's Museum" to seek direction in which Children's museum should strive for at the small assembly hall in the Museum on Thursday.

The topic of the forum is "Space together, we together" (translated).

American educationalist and honorary professor of Oregon State University John Fork, who is known as the expert of spectator research in Museum Education, will give a lecture based on the topic "The value Children's Museum have on adults" (translated).

Presentations like public construction and space for children, composition place for the development of child's creativity, and adults protecting playgrounds for kids will also be held at the forum.

The Cultural Foundation of the National Museum of Korea announced on Tuesday that they have invented a Bodhisattava character to celebrate one year anniversary of the opening of Room of Quiet Contemplation.

The foundation will also release 4 kinds of items (10 total) like dolls and key chains using the character.

The foundation will display 2m sized character sculpture at MU:DS promotion hall on the third floor of permanent exhibition hall to advertise the character and ask the public for its name.

Room of Queit Contemplation, which opened last Nov., displays two national treasures, pensive Bodhisattva.

According to the foundation, the number of cumulative visitors reach approximately 560,000 as of Nov. 10.
