SEOUL, July 20 (Yonhap) -- Filmmaker-animator Yeon Sang-ho's zombie blockbuster "Train to Busan" will be re-released overseas in a 4K remastered version to mark the 10th anniversary of its original release, distributor NEW said Monday.
The film is scheduled to reopen in theaters in the Philippines on Aug. 5, followed by North America on Aug. 14, Japan on Aug. 21 and Italy on Sept. 2. It will also be released sequentially in Spain, Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
In North America, the remastered version will be screened in more than 500 theaters.
"Train to Busan" follows passengers aboard a KTX high-speed train traveling from Seoul to Busan as they struggle to survive an outbreak caused by a mysterious virus. The film stars Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi and Ma Dong-seok.
The movie premiered in the Midnight Screenings section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival before opening in South Korea later that year, where it drew more than 10 million moviegoers.
