SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Wonju, a city in Gangwon Province, said Tuesday that the 2026 Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail Barefoot Walking Festival will be held from 9 a.m. Saturday along the Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail in Haenggu-dong.

 

The event is hosted by the Kangwon Ilbo and supported by Wonju City.

 

The Korea Walking Association, Korea Walking Federation, Wonju Walking Association and Wonju branch of the Barefoot Walking Movement Headquarters are supporting the event.

 

Participants will start at Parking Lot 2 of the Wonju Eol Education Center and walk barefoot along a 3.5-kilometer section of the Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail, the first course of Chiaksan Wonju Sopoong-gil.

 

The Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail is one of Wonju's leading walking attractions, featuring gentle dirt paths surrounded by dense pine forests.

Side events and a prize drawing will also be held at the venue.

 

The participation fee is 10,000 won, and participants will receive souvenirs, shoe bags and bottled water.

 

Participation is limited to the first 500 applicants, with registration open until 6 p.m. Sept. 3.

 

Applications can be submitted online through the Korea Walking Association's website or in person at the association's office on the second floor of Wonju Sports Complex.

 

Park Myeong-ok, director of Wonju's Culture and Education Bureau, said, "Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail is a valuable walking resource where people can enjoy nature and take care of their health close to their everyday lives. I hope the barefoot forest walk will be a time to recharge your energy."
