SEOUL, August 17 (Yonhap) -- Gangjin county, South Jeolla Province, announced on Tuesday that it had launched a Gangin celadon product along with Starbucks Korea at all the Starbucks stores in Korea to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Korean Liberation day.
The Gangjin region is a representative area for the production of Goryeo celadon, with about 200 celadon kiln sites that produced the highest quality of celadons during the Goryeo Dynasty.
Beginning from the end of 2020, the county proposed the development of cultural products using Goryeo celadon to Starbucks, and after continuous consultation, the product has been launched in order to commemorate the Liberation Day of Korea.
The Gangjin celadon product consists of a celadon tea cup and a celadon tray.
Additionally, Starubucks also introduced a stainless steel tumbler that reflects the design of Goryeo celadon to match the Gangin celadon product.
The most important characteristic of Goryeo celadon is its clear and transparent glaze.
The Gangjin celadon product has showed the characteristics of Goryeo celadon well, which becomes darker and lighter according to the thickness of the glaze. The cup lid and tray handle has been decorated with gold as well.
"Through this collaboration, we expect the value of cultural heritage of Goryeo celadon, as well as the excellence and beauty of the current Gangjin celadon to be widely known," said an official of the county.
A portion of the revenue from the Gangjin celadon product launched by Starbucks will be used for the preservation of Korea's cultural heritage related to the independence movement of Korea and will be used for the preservation of the cultural properties and cultural heritages.
