SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- The National Hangeul Museum, currently closed, will hold traveling exhibitions at seven regional cultural and arts institutions this year.
The museum announced on Tuesday that it will present exhibitions such as "Children’s World" and "Modern Hangeul Research Institute" in Gongju, South Chungcheong; Gumi, North Gyeongsang; Busan; Gimpo, Gyeonggi; Gangneung, Gangwon; and Jeju.
"Children’s World," based on the magazine Children, which was published during the Japanese colonial period, will be held at Art Center Goma in Gongju (March 13–May 11) and the Gumi Culture & Arts Center (May 20–July 20).
"Modern Hangeul Research Institute," which reinterprets modern-era Hangeul materials into design works such as crafts, fashion, and video, will be showcased at Gimpo Art Village Art Center (April 1–June 29) and Busan Citizens’ Hall (September 12–October 31).
The exhibition "I Can’t Resist Dialects!", first held last year to mark the museum’s 10th anniversary, will continue at Ojukheon & Municipal Museum in Gangneung (July 9–August 31) and the Seolmundae Halmang Exhibition Hall at Jeju Stone Park (September 22–December 7). Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the language of dialect speakers from across the country and related content.
The Chungcheongnam-do History Museum in Gongju will host "Hangeul, Capturing the Heart" from March 27 to July 6, featuring Hangeul materials from the Joseon royal court and aristocratic families. The exhibition will include Jagyeongjeon gi, which reflects royal filial piety, and King Jeongjo’s Hangeul letters expressing family affection.
Located in Yongsan, Seoul, the National Hangeul Museum houses a collection of Hangeul-related documents and artifacts.
Since October last year, the museum has been closed for renovations across its four floors. Earlier this month, a massive fire broke out, completely destroying the third and fourth floors. Although no artifacts were reported damaged, the museum has decided to relocate its collection of approximately 89,000 items to the National Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum of Korea.
