SEOUL, Apr. 13 (Yonhap) -- A performance to meet the music King Sejong left behind is being held.

The National Gugak Center announced on the 13th that the Court Music Orchestra will be performing "Sejong's sound- Yeomindongrak" in the National Gugak Center located in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

A performance related to Yeominrak, music created by King Sejong the Great to share the joy of music with the people, will be performed with Song Ji-won, the former head of researcher at the National Gugak Center being the narrator.

Yeominrak was originally made to sing "Yongbieocheonga (Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven)." Known as the oldest existing sheet music in Korea, Sejong Sillok Akbo (music score of Veritable Records of King Sejong) and the 4 songs recorded in "Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty)," which includes Yeominrakman, Yeominrakryeong, Yeominrak and Haeryeong are passed on today.

"Yeominrakman" and "Yeominrakryeong" are mainly performed for royal events, the King's procession and accompaniment music for the court dance. "Yeominrak" performed in this performance is an instrumental ensemble piece that was accepted as the punryubang music (utilized as in-class activity materials in the area of singing or music appreciation) by the scholars in the mid to late 16th century, while "Haeryeong" is a variation of Yeominrakryeong made in the early 20th century.

The Court Music Orchestra of the National Gugak Center will perform four musical pieces of the Yeominrak music.

"I hope this performance will serve as a valuable opportunity to convey the musical achievements and meaning of King Sejong to the audience" said Lee Sang-won, Concertmaster of the National Gugak Center Court Music Orchestra.

The price of the ticket will be around 20,000-30,000won and can be bought at the website of the National Gugak Center (www.gugak.co.kr) or through a phone call (☎ 02-580-3300).
