SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) – MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama series “Kokdu: Season of Deity,” starring Kim Jung-hyun and Im Soo-hyang, has kicked off with a viewing rate in the 4% range.

The first episode, aired at 9:50 p.m. Friday, of this fantasy romance drama depicting the sad love story of the two lovers each from the past and present lives had a viewing rate of 4.8%, according to Neilson Korea.

The drama began with the tragedy of warrior Oh-hyun who came to betray the country to protect his love, played by Kim Jung-hyun, and Seol-hee, played by Lim Soo-hyang. Even before recognizing each other’s long-awaited existence, Do Jin-woo is thrown into another terrible accident and pushed to the verge of death once again. Despite the efforts of Han Gye-jeol to save him with all her might, Doctor Do eventually dies, which brings the drama to a new turn as Do Jin-woo’s dead body gets possessed by Kokdu, the puppet of the God of Death.

This riveting fantasy romance comedy brings forth the two lovers’ mournful love stories with drops of comic elements to revive its pleasantness; The chemistry started to bloom between Lim Soo-hyang, who appears as a feisty, smirky Han Gye-jeol, and Kim Jung-Hyun, who has returned to the small screens as an arrogant, cold, and cruel grim reaper.

In particular, Kim Jung-hyun’s skillful acting, despite his return from a hiatus for self-reflection following a controversial scandal with another co-actress, is definitely eye-catching. The actor will be leading the play by portraying three different roles: Warrior Oh-hyun, Doctor Do Jin-woo, and Kokdu who possesses the body of Doctor Do.
