SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Kim Eun-sook, the screenwriter behind hit series including "Descendants of the Sun," "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" and "The Glory," will receive the top honor at this year's Seoul Drama Awards.

 

The Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee said Tuesday that Kim was selected as the recipient of the Golden Bird Award at the 21st Seoul Drama Awards.

 

The Golden Bird Award is the highest honor at the Seoul Drama Awards and is presented to a hit production or individual who has made a significant impact over the past year.

 

This marks the first time a screenwriter has been selected for the award since it was established in 2023. In its inaugural year, the award went to Disney+ series "Big Bet" and actor Choi Min-sik. In 2024, it was presented to director Park Chan-wook, co-showrunner and executive producer of HBO's "The Sympathizer," while director Ben Stiller received it in 2025 for directing Season 2 of Apple TV+'s "Severance."

 

Kim has written a string of popular dramas across genres, including "Lovers in Paris," "Secret Garden," "The Heirs," "Descendants of the Sun," "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," "Mr. Sunshine" and "The Glory." Last year, she released the Netflix series "All the Love You Wish For," starring Suzy and Kim Woo-bin.

 

The organizing committee said it selected Kim in recognition of her ability to continually create stories that resonate with the times through her distinctive storytelling and to move viewers around the world.

 

The awards ceremony will be held at KBS Hall in Yeouido on Oct. 8.
