SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) - Melon, Korea's largest music platform, announced on Thursday that it will unveil "Melon Hall of Fame," which aggregates streaming records of Korean and foreign artists.
The "Melon Hall of Fame," which is to be released later in the day, consists of the "Billions Club" section commemorating artists who have more than 1 billion streams since their debut, the "Millions Album" celebrating an album that has 1 million streams in 24 hours after its release, and the "Data Lab" that analyzes and releases the performance of Korean and foreign artists monthly.
In the "Billions Club," the group BTS was the only one to achieve more than 10 billion streams and was named a member of the "Dia" club. The cumulative streaming of BTS exceeded 12.1 billion times.
IU, Lim Young-woong, and EXO, who have more than 5 billion streams are to be crowned the "Gold" club.
The "Silver" club, which recorded 2 to 5 billion streams, featured 19 artists, including SEVENTEEN, BLACKPINK, Red Velvet, AKMU, and Huh Gak.
A total of 91 singers, including them, have achieved more than 1 billion streams.
The "Millions Album" is compiled for full-length, single, and mini-albums released after January 1, 2023. So far, Newjeans’ "OMG," MONSTA X's "REASON" and Taeyang's "VIBE," which have been released this month, have been listed on the Million album.
The "Data Lab" project, which analyzes and discloses music consumption patterns, will also be converted into a regular service in the "Melon Hall of Fame". It plans to select artists who have shown growth every month and release data in the form of magazines.
Cho Eun-young, head of Melon Service Division at Kakao Entertainment, said, "We hope that 'Melon Hall of Fame' will establish itself as a representative space that shines and honors the honor of the main characters of the music industry in Korea and abroad."
