SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) -- tvN’s hit drama "Lovely Runner" concluded with ratings in the 5% range.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 29th, the final episode of "Lovely Runner," which aired at 8:50 PM the previous day, recorded a viewership rating of 5.8%.
The finale featured Ryu Sun-jae (played by Byun Woo-seok), who regained his memories, confessing his unwavering love for Im Sol (played by Kim Hye-yoon). Kim Young-soo (Heo Hyung-gyu), who persistently threatened Im Sol, met a grim end. While fleeing from detective Kim Tae-seong (Song Geon-hee), he was hit by a truck and drowned.
Finally finding peace, Ryu Sun-jae and Im Sol enjoy secret dates as a star and a movie company employee. The drama concluded with the two protagonists promising to spend their lives together and getting married.
"Lovely Runner," which evoked nostalgia for the 2000s, began to spread by word of mouth among viewers. The plot, which featured the main character meeting and becoming a successful fan of their favorite artist, struck a chord with fans. Kim Hye-yoon’s portrayal of the lively and spirited Im Sol added strength to the series. Byun Woo-seok, who played the character from a fresh-faced 19-year-old high school swimming ace to a 33-year-old top star with hidden wounds, received praise for his performance and significantly boosted the immersion of the drama.
Despite an average viewership rating in the 4% range, "Lovely Runner" generated considerable buzz, comparable to more popular dramas. The "final episode group viewing" event, where fans could meet the main cast, sold out instantly. The pop-up store event selling drama merchandise drew large crowds, with fans posting on social media about taking half-days off and lining up from the early morning to get in.
