SEOUL, April 21 (Yonhap) -- “The winter in my heart was longer than spring. As time passed, I wanted to feel the warm spring with many people.”

Singer-songwriter BOL4 (Ahn Ji-young) has returned with a song to warm up the spring days.

“I’m excited to sing for you since I had a long break,” said Ahn in a showcase ahead of the release of the mini-album “Seoul.”

The new album portrays Seoul, a city spent together through many seasons.

“There are many emotions in my Seoul. I was passionate, and loved, but also hurt. I wanted to show you the Seoul BOL4 has felt,” explained Ahn about the album’s title “Seoul.”

The album consists of 5 tracks including the title song “Seoul,” “Love story,” “What makes us beautiful,” “In the mirror,” and “Star.” The singer wrote the lyrics to all of the tracks and also participated in the composition.

The title song “Seoul” features the sound of bass guitar and electric guitar. Ahn’s unique voice and the bright melody create a pleasant atmosphere.

“Seoul was the city of my dreams. I wrote the songs for this album by recalling what I’ve dreamt of and how I loved music back when I was 20 and came to Seoul. I wanted listeners to know how beautiful Seoul was,” said Ahn.

“Since the theme of the music video was Seoul, I went all around Han River. It was cold because my clothes were thin and we filmed it before spring,” added the singer.

Ahn revealed how she tried to be comfortable and relieve pressure when producing the album. In 2020, the artist took a break from all activities due to anxiety and concentrated on treatment.

“I want to write songs comfortably while taking breaks. I’ve pursued the music I wanted to but also had some anxiety inside. Now, I want to feel comfortable when creating my songs,” explained the singer.

BOL4, which debuted in 2016, will mark its 6th anniversary on April 22.

Ahn shared, “I can’t believe it's already 6 years,” adding, “I’ve received so much love in a short time. I was under a lot of pressure, but thank you for saying that you gained hope and joy from my songs.”

“I want BOL4’s music to develop stronger and more unique,” added Ahn.

The singer will hold a solo concert in Olympic Hall, Olympic Park, Seoul, on May 14~15, and meet fans after a long time.

“I think I’ve done my job as a person who writes music. Now, I just hope the songs reach many listeners and they love them as much as I’ve worked hard” (laughs).
