PyeongChang International Peace Film Festival to begin on June 23

CHUNCHEON, May 30 (Yonhap) – The 2022 PyeongChang International Peace Film Festival(PIPFF) will be held in Hoenggye-ri, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do from June 23 to 28.

The slogan of this year's PyeongChang Film Festival is "with, CINEMA."

It contains the time of meeting through the festival again and wish to take a real break.

The opening film is "Olga," directed by Elie Grappe. .

The work is set in the time when the Euromaiden revolt breaks out in the country, which led to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and it was invited to the 74th Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week and honored with the SACD Award.

The festival will feature 88 films from 28 countries through 10 categories.

The Korean Short Films competition, which is the official competition section of the film festival, will screen 16 works that show communication with the spirit of the times, and the International Feature Films competition will screen 8 works of the talented rookie directors that drawn attention of the scene.

The festival’s unique sector "Pyongyang Cinema” will introduce the films that focus on the division between the two sides as well as its historical features, while "Cinematic Gangwon" prepared various works to confirm cinematic capabilities of Gangwon-do.

The PIPFF will screen films at Eoul Madang, which is a space for local festivals, a warehouse used as a potato storage, and Daegwallyeong Training Center.

As it was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "International Culture and Arts Event Host City Rebranding Project" and secured a budget of 1.85 billion won last year, there have been improvements in terms of space and screening facilities for the film festival this year.

Various side events and exhibitions will also be provided in the festival.

The outdoor screening “Camping Cinema” will be held throughout Pyeongchang, and a walking event "PIFF Walk,” where people complete the mission while walking through the space of the film festival, will also be held.

Furthermore, there will be a cheerful field event where local filmmakers from all over the country interact together and "PIPFF Stage," where you can meet S. Korean singers Sunwoo Jung-a, 10CM, Cho Myeong-seop, and Kim Da-hyeon, will also be held.

CEO Moon Seong-geun said on May 30, "There are still wars and conflicts in the world, but I hope this film festival held in Pyeongchang will serve as a path to share the worries," adding, "As this year’s slogan is ‘with CINEMA,’ I hope people can be comforted through movies.”
