SEOUL, May 15 (Yonhap) -- Singer WOODZ's surprise hit "Drowning" has set a new record for the longest stay in the Top 10 on Melon's "Top 100" chart, his agency EDAM Entertainment said Friday.
"Drowning" remained in the chart's Top 10 for 70 consecutive weeks, surpassing previous records held by NewJeans' "Hype Boy" with 49 weeks and BTS' "Dynamite" with 36 weeks.
The song, written and composed by WOODZ himself, was included on his fifth mini album released in April 2023. It portrays the emotions of losing a loved one through an intense yet delicate sound.
The track gained renewed attention after WOODZ performed it during a special Armed Forces Day episode of KBS 2TV's "Immortal Songs" in October 2024 while serving in the military.
Following its resurgence, "Drowning" climbed to the top of major music charts and later ranked No. 1 on Melon's, Genie Music's and Circle Chart's year-end digital rankings last year.
The performance video from "Immortal Songs," which sparked the song's revival, surpassed 30 million views as of late last month.
WOODZ has been promoting his first full-length album, "Archive. 1," released in March.
