SEOUL, July 4 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) announced on the 4th that it has established guidelines to strengthen the fairness and transparency of K-pop award ceremonies.
The KMCA stated, "These guidelines were created to address various issues arising from the rapidly increasing number of K-pop award ceremonies and to promote the sustainable development of the K-pop industry."
The guidelines include: ▲The necessity for thorough preparation and management to host reliable and dignified award ceremonies; ▲The establishment of fair and transparent award criteria to foster a culture of award ceremonies that contribute to the industry's development; ▲Respect for the choices of management companies and artists, and protection of the rights of performers; and ▲encouragement to host award ceremonies domestically.
The need to enhance cooperation with the government for the proper hosting of award ceremonies.
The KMCA plans to release a "standard contract for award show appearances" later this month to support the adherence to these guidelines. This standard contract aims to facilitate fair agreements between artists and management companies when participating in award shows. The KMCA expects that this contract will protect the rights of artists and reduce the legal risks for management companies.
According to the KMCA, despite the significant portion of performances at K-pop award shows, there have been instances where performance contracts were not drawn up due to the events being categorized as 'award ceremonies.'
The KMCA also requested that the government designate an agency to manage award ceremonies, which would ensure that basic elements such as safety guidelines and contract preparations are reviewed, given the difficulty management companies face in responding to numerous K-pop award show invitations throughout the year.
Choi Kwang-ho, Secretary General of the KMCA, stated, "We expect these guidelines to contribute to creating award ceremonies that are trusted by the industry, artists, and audiences alike."
