SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Film Council said Tuesday it will operate "Airport Cinema Club" at the domestic terminal's third-floor public waiting area of Gimhae International Airport for about a month from Sept. 22 to Oct. 19 to mark the 20th anniversary of the long-form filmmaking program at the Korean Academy of Film Arts.

 

The event is part of a cultural program organized by Korea Airports Corp. to link airports with local communities. It is expected to provide domestic and international visitors with an opportunity to experience Korean films in conjunction with the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which will open next month.

 

KAFA will present "10-Minute Cinema," a program featuring short films by directors who graduated from the academy, including Bong Joon Ho, Jang Joon-hwan, Choi Dong-hoon and Lee Ok-seop. A total of 25 short films will be screened, ranging from early works by leading Korean directors to recent films by emerging directors that have drawn attention at international film festivals.

 

Other programs include "Cinema Warehouse," an exhibition of art books and screenplays, and "Cinema Card," which allows visitors to watch films on their mobile phones.

 

The screenings are free and open to anyone visiting the airport, regardless of whether they are traveling by air.

 

"KAFA has been a place where we can share with audiences the growth of creators who have emerged over the past 20 years," KAFA Director Cho Geun-sik said. "We hope this will provide an opportunity for people to become more familiar with Korean films in the open space of an airport and broaden access to cultural experiences."
