SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- Disney+ announced on Tuesday that actors Park Bo-young and Kim Sung-cheol will star in a new original series Goldland, set to premiere next year.
Goldland follows the intense struggle of a woman who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars smuggled by a crime syndicate. As greed and betrayal erupt among the various characters surrounding the treasure, she becomes consumed by the desire to keep the gold for herself, leading to a chaotic battle for survival.
Park Bo-young will play Kim Hee-joo, an airport security screener who gets entangled in an illegal gold smuggling scheme. Determined to protect the gold, she finds herself caught in a high-stakes confrontation.
Kim Sung-cheol takes on the role of Jang Wook, a low-level employee of a loan shark organization. After discovering that Hee-joo has the smuggled gold, he deliberately approaches her under false pretenses.
The supporting cast includes Lee Hyun-wook as Lee Do-kyung, an airline co-pilot and Hee-joo’s boyfriend, and Kim Hee-won as Detective Kim Jin-man, part of the violent crimes unit at the local police station.
Moon Jung-hee plays Yeo Sun-ok, Hee-joo’s mother. Lee Kwang-soo plays Director Park, who manages the underground network of a hotel casino named Goldland.
The series will be directed by Kim Sung-hoon, known for films like Confidential Assignment and Rampant, and written by acclaimed screenwriter Hwang Jo-yoon, whose past works include Memoir of a Murderer, Masquerade, and Oldboy.
With a high-stakes plot centered on gold smuggling, Goldland promises an intense mix of action, suspense, and psychological drama.
