SEOUL, Sep. 8 (Yonhap) -- Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), a large-scale Asian music awards ceremony, will be hosted in South Korea on the 11th of December, according to CJ ENM Wednesday.

MAMA, started in 1999 as a music video awards ceremony, and has expanded its area to overseas from Macau in 2010 to other various foreign cities including Singapore and Hongkong. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards ceremony took place online in Korea from last year.

Although, there are chances for the event to be held offline unlike last year.

“We will decide on whether to hold the event offline considering the COVID-19 situation for the remaining period and the government’s guidelines overall,” said CJ ENM.

“We wish the event to be an opportunity for use to give hope and courage to those who are exhausted (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), not to mention to give new energy to the music scene by hosting it in Korea, the birthplace of K-pop,” said Kim Hyun-soo, head of CJ ENM Music Content Division.
