SEOUL, Sept. 16 (Yonhap) -- Cho Yong-pil, widely known as the “King of Pop,” will hold a solo concert, “2026 Cho Yong-pil & Great Birth Concert,” at KSPO Dome in Seoul’s Olympic Park from Nov. 27-29, his agency YPC said Wednesday.

 

The concert will mark his first solo show in 10 months since his performance at the same venue in January.

 

YPC said the concert will be an opportunity for Cho, who has written a chapter in the history of South Korean popular music with countless hit songs and distinctive performances, to meet his fans in person.

 

“Fans will be able to revisit Cho Yong-pil’s musical journey in one place, including his signature songs that have received unwavering love over the years,” the agency said.

 

It added that Great Birth, the band that has performed with Cho for many years, will put on a highly polished show.

 

Cho debuted in 1968 as a member of the rock group Atkins. He rose to stardom after “Come Back to Busan Port” became a hit in 1976, followed by his 1980 debut album, which included “The Woman Outside the Window” and “Short Hair” and became the first million-selling album in the history of South Korean popular music.

 

He went on to set numerous records, including becoming the first South Korean artist to sell more than 1 million copies of a single album and the first to surpass 10 million copies in cumulative album sales. He also became the first South Korean singer to perform at Japan’s NHK Hall and appear on the “Kohaku Uta Gassen” year-end music program, as well as the first Korean singer to perform at Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York.
