SEOUL, May 11 (Yonhap) -- The drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” a.k.a. “Woo Young-woo,” will compete for an international Emmy Award this year, industry sources said Thursday.

The 16-episode ENA drama series, which concluded in August last year, has been submitted for consideration at the 51st International Emmy Awards, according to local broadcasting industry sources.

This year’s Emmys will take place in New York on Nov. 20.

"Woo Young-woo,” starring actress Park Eun-bin and produced by Korean production company AStory, depicts the story of a brilliant lawyer named Woo Young-woo who is on the autism spectrum.

The drama aired on cable channel ENA and gained great popularity domestically, consistently ranking first in viewership time for seven consecutive weeks in the non-English language drama category on Netflix.

It received remake proposals from some 10 countries, including the United States, Japan, China, Turkey, the Philippines, and Germany, with discussions on the details currently underway.

The International Emmy Awards, established in 1973 to introduce outstanding international programs to American viewers, are considered one of the top three television awards in the world, along with the Banff World Media Festival in Canada and the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco.

Last year, TV series “The King's Affection,” starring Park, won the Emmy’s TeleNovela Award, the first Korean drama to win that category.
