SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- "This album can be described as having a 'digital metallic flavor' or 'electronic metallic taste,'" says Winter of K-pop girl group aespa.
The K-pop quartet is known for their bold and intense "metallic sound" music style, is back with their latest single "Whiplash," offering an even deeper version of their signature style.
On the 21st, SM Entertainment revealed, "The song's repetitive chorus is its charm," and added, "It's designed to make everyone want to dance within just five seconds of listening." Scheduled for release at 6 PM, "Whiplash" includes the title track and five additional songs, such as the hip-hop dance track "Kill It" and the mystical R&B track "Flights, Not Feelings."
For the first time since their debut, aespa has ventured into EDM-based techno with the title track. The members emphasized how they aimed to convey the addictive beat through their choreography. Karina explained, "'Whiplash' focuses on expressing the rhythm, so we incorporated movements that stretch out the arms and hands to emphasize linear motions." Ningning added, "We've incorporated the essence of aespa into the composition, paired with styling that matches the song, so you can look forward to a striking performance."
The members shared that their goal with this album is to create enjoyable music rather than simply surpassing their previous achievements. Their last release, "Supernova," the title track of their first full-length album released in May, topped Melon's weekly chart for a record-breaking 15 weeks. Reflecting on that success, Winter said, "Seeing how 'Supernova' helped fans get through tough times was heartening, and we hope this new album will also be a source of support in many people's daily lives."
Following the release of their new album, aespa is set to embark on a tour in North and South America and Europe next year. After wrapping up a successful tour across 15 cities in Asia last month, the members expressed their excitement about meeting fans through their new activities and upcoming concerts. Giselle shared, "The events that fans prepared for us were truly memorable and touching. We're excited and eager to show a new side of ourselves through this album and the concerts."
"We're bringing you music that will make you want to dance, so please show lots of love for 'Whiplash' and let go of your stress as you listen!" said Karina.
