South Korea pledges 340 million won every year to ICCROM

SEOUL October 08 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Cultural Heritage Administration decided to commit 340 million won every year to further the development of the education, research and preservation of the heritage.

The CHA signed a trust fund agreement with International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property shortened as ICCROM, at the national palace museum of Korea on October 7.

ICCROM, which was established in 1959 is an advisory body of the World Heritage Center.

Including South Korea total of 137 countries are included within the research organization focusing on developing the relationship between countries to help out with preserving, restoring and educating people on the subject matter of world heritage.

The CHA, which has signed a trust fund agreement with ICCROM in 2012 has been donating over 240 million won to support the preservation of Asian Pacific heritage sites and development of educational system related to the subject matter.

By renewing the contract both parties agreed on increasing the budget to 340 million won.

ICCROM is hosting educational programs within Asia Pacific region to create professional heritage preservers, and with the increased amount of fun ICCROM plans to increase the provided educational courses by adding HIA (Heritage Impact Assessment) related classes.

In time for the signing of the trust fund agreement, the CHA is hosting a People Nature Culture Forum 2022 (PNC).

PNC hosted by Korea National University of Cultural Heritage will gather leading figures of heritage related profession in Suwon City where they discus on the topic of “the range of services and benefits generated by the conservation of heritage places” and more.
