SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) – Mega-hit boy group BTS set a new record by winning the grand prize for six consecutive years at the 37th Golden Disc Awards.

At the awards ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, BTS won a total of four awards, including the Grand Prize in the album category, the Album Main Award, the TikTok Golden Disc Popularity Award, and the "Thai Fans Support with Baoji" won by member J-Hope.

BTS has set a record for winning the grand prize in the album category for six consecutive years since 2018. They also won the grand prize for record and music in 2020.

"I will accept the award as a meaning of support for the future of BTS and receive it with gratitude and humility," said J-Hope, who attended the award ceremony on behalf of the group.

BTS debuted as a hip-hop idol in 2013 and has emerged as a world star by establishing a solid domestic and foreign fandom and topping both the Billboard single and album charts. They are now focusing on their individual activities.

J-Hope said, "As I remembered the past 10 years while working on this album, I felt that every single album and each song were so precious," adding, "I thought it was happiness for us and ARMY to tell each other's stories and enjoy the moment. That's how this album "Proof" came out, and album that depicts a big future with ARMY came out."

He also revealed that six members, without Jin, who joined the military gathered for a drink after a long time on Friday, the day before the award ceremony,

"It's been a long time since we met and had a drink, and I couldn't be so happy," J-Hope said. He added, "I want to picture the moment when the BTS members will gather again and be together."

Rookie IVE, the center of the girl group sensation, won the Rookie Artist of the Year and the Grand Prize in the music category at the same time, winning a total of three prizes. From their debut song "ELEVEN" to "LOVE DIVE" and "After Like," IVE recorded three consecutive hits. Producer Seo Hyun-joo of Starship Entertainment, IVE’s agency, held the Best Producer of the Year.

IVE members An Yujin, Liz, and Leeseo were unable to attend due to COVID-19.

"We received a valuable award in a short period of time and tried really hard and it was a very happy year," member Gaeul said, adding, "but we felt anxious as much. IVE will be a group who doesn’t fear anxious thoughts and tries to move forward.”

Along with IVE, girl groups LE SSERAFIM and Newjeans also enjoyed the joy of jointly receiving the Rookie of the Year. Seventeen, who became a global star, won three gold prizes.
