SEOUL November 04 (Yonhap) -- Gimhae city located within South Gyeongsang Province known for harvesting sweet persimmon kicked off their 34th “Gimhae Jinyeong Sweet Persimmon Festival” on Friday.

“Gimhae Jinyeong Sweet Persimmon Festival” which will be held for three days in total until November 6 at the Jinyeong Sports Complex.

Given the current situation, Gimhae city government decided to cancel the firework events opening and closing ceremony and performance stages.

Instead, they have developed the interaction exhibition branching off from the discounted market event for sweet persimmon.

Moreover, through the exhibition Gimhae city will include a section where they present a sweet persimmon tree dates back to 94 to 96 years ago from the .

Gimhae city is the first place in South Korea to have harvested Sweet Persimmon.

Root of harvesting the persimmon tree dates back to the Japanese colonial period, where stationmaster who found out about the suitability between the soil of Jinyeong and persimmon trees, brought in 100 of the persimmon tress from japan in 1927 and planted in Jinyeong town.

Jinyeong town in Gimhae City harvest over 103 thousand ton of sweet persimmon annually.
