SEOUL, June 25 (Yonhap) -- Live performances are increasingly making their way into movie theaters as cinemas seek to broaden their role beyond film screenings.

Lotte Cultureworks said Thursday it will host the stand-up comedy show "Lee Sang-jun Show – Solo Party" at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul on June 26 and July 10 and 24.

The show features comedian Lee Sang-jun sharing humorous stories about dating, marriage and everyday life while interacting directly with audience members.

The performance is designed to take advantage of theater infrastructure, including comfortable seating, large screens and immersive sound systems, to enhance audience engagement.

All seats for the show sold out within one minute of ticket sales opening.

Lotte Cultureworks will also present the immersive production "Inside the Play: Death Game" at Lotte Cinema Avenuel in Seoul starting July 17.

The show is the fourth installment in the company's immersive entertainment brand, "Inside the Play," and unfolds under the premise that terrorists have taken control of a movie theater.

Audience members participate as survivors in the story, making real-time decisions and carrying out missions that directly influence the plot and determine its ending.

The production utilizes the theater's large screens and advanced sound system to heighten the audiovisual experience. Actor Jung Sung-il is set to appear on screen as a key figure central to the development of the story.

The growing number of theater-based performances is seen as part of the industry's efforts to explore cinemas' potential as multipurpose entertainment venues.

A Lotte Cinema official said movie theaters are well suited to presenting a wide range of content formats thanks to their existing infrastructure.

"We aim to transform cinemas into multifaceted cultural spaces that offer audiences new forms of entertainment through diverse uses of the venue beyond films," the official said.
