SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean block buster movie about admiral Yi Soon Shin’s battle of the Hansan Island, “Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon” is attracting audiences for the weekend.

According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council, on Friday “Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon” topped the South Korean box office on July 28 by attracting 236 thousand audiences which was 51 percent of the total sales record on that day.

“Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon” foretold its popularity by continuing on with its lead. According to the reservation rate of Friday at 8 a.m. 47.6 percent, which comes down to 288 thousand tickets of “Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon” was sold, keeping its spot on top of the Korean box office firm and strong. Up until July 28, total of 638 thousand audiences watched “Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon.”

“Hansan: The Emergence of Dragon” is the second movie about admiral Yi out of three that director Kim Han-min planned. The record created by S.Korean movie premiered in 2014, “The Admiral: Roaring Current,” with 17.16 million total audiences has not been broken for 8 years.

Director Choi Dong-hoon’s SF action movie “Alienoid” which premiered a week ago attracted total of 309 thousand audiences, placing fourth on the Korean box office. “Alienoid” attracted total of 1.17 million audiences up until Thursday. The breakeven point of “Alienoid” is up at 7 million audiences considering its production cost of 33 billion won.

Animation movie “The Minions 2” and “Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise are keeping up with their good run as one of the top ranked movies, while “Pororo: Dragon Castle Adventure” entered the race as fifth on the Korean box office.

Romanian film director Radu Jude’s “Bad Luck Banging: Loony Porn”, director Christien Anholt’s “Impossible Love” which originates from the novel with same title and more has premiered on screen leading up to the weekend.
