SEOUL, Jan. 1 (Yonhap) – S. Korean actress Kim So-yeon(41), who led all 3 seasons of the hit drama “The Penthouse,” has won the grand prize at the 2021 SBS Drama Awards.

Kim So-yeon was named the grand prize winner at the 2021 SBS Drama Awards, which was held at SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong of the Mapo-gu district in Seoul from the night of Dec. 31, 2021 to over 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022, by beating Lee Ha-nee from “One the Woman,” and Song Hye-kyo from “Now, We Are Breaking Up.”

Kim So-yeon, who broke down to tears, said, "I started as an extra 28 years ago," adding, "That first work was a SBS drama, and I can't believe that SBS gave me such a big award today."

The actress then gave thanks to the production staffs and fellow actors, along with the director Joo Dong-min and the screenwriter Kim Soon-ok, and mentioned, "I'm sorry and grateful that I'm standing here alone."

“The Penthouse,” which ended the first season with a ratings of nearly 30% in January this year, was considered the best SBS drama with double-digit ratings until season 2 and season 3. Kim So-yeon performed a wicked villain by playing the role of Cheon Seo-jin, the famous soprano, who was born rich.

The awards ceremony was held without audience following last year due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection(COVID-19), and the MCs were Shin Dong-yup and Kim Yoo-jung.
