SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- The National Museum of Korea said Tuesday it will hold a special lecture titled “The Life and Art of Danwon Kim Hong-do” at Theater Yong inside the museum on June 2.

The lecture is linked to the museum’s themed exhibition, “Danwon Kim Hong-do: Painting the Times,” which showcases representative works by the celebrated Joseon-era painter Kim Hong-do (1745-1806). Yoo Hong-jun, former administrator of the Korea Heritage Service, will provide a comprehensive look into the artist’s life and artistic world.

Kim was renowned not only for his genre paintings depicting everyday life, but also for his outstanding skills in landscape and flower-and-bird paintings. He embraced both traditional court-painter styles and Western painting techniques.

The lecture will examine Kim’s body of work from his early years to his later period, offering audiences a broader understanding of his artistic achievements.

Reservations can be made through the museum’s website and Instagram-linked booking page starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with one ticket allowed per person.
