SEOUL, August 29 (Yonhap) -- The Korean girl group BLACKPINK had their first performance as the first K-pop girl group performing at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), the U.S. pop music awards ceremony.

On August 28, at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, BLACKPINK performed their second full album's pre-released song "Pink Venom."

"Pink Venom" is a hip-hop genre song showing Black Pink's unique charisma, and it reveals their identity as a K-pop girl group by using traditional Korean musical instrument sounds between strong beats.

Local fans cheered by waving BLACKPINK's glow stick as the pink smoke appeared on the stage and BLACKPINK, in their black costumes, appeared.

BLACKPINK smiled and waved to their audience after their performance and left the stage. BLACKPINK got the "Best Metaverse Performance" award at the awards ceremony held before the performance.

The MTV VMA is considered one of the most popular music awards in the United States, along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards.

BLACKPINK joined TLC, Spice Girls, and Fifth Harmony as the fourth girl group to perform on the VMA stage.(This article is translated from Korean to English by Dowon Kim.)
